It’s not often I’ll blog about two lip products in a row.  I like to mix it up a bit.  But as I was photographing and testing the new Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge I decided I couldn’t WAIT to share this with you.

Not only is the product itself AMAZING but the color is va-va-voooommmmm!  Of course I’m talking about 8 Iconic Red, which was made in collaboration with Madonnas makeup artist Gina Brooke as the official lip color of the MDNA tour.

What the Sephora website has to say about Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge:

What it is:
A liquid lip color that provides the intense and long-lasting hold of a lip stain with the eye-catching shine of a gloss.

What it does:
Formulated with a combination of high molecular weight polymers and volatile oils, Aqua Rouge locks color on the lips for a smudge-proof result that will not transfer or fade. Its intensely pigmented formula provides immediate, opaque color with extreme shine, and its creamy, non-sticky texture glides effortlessly on the lips for comfortable wear.

What else you need to know:
Aqua Rouge’s double-ended packaging allows for a simple, two-step application: apply lip color with precision using the ergonomic, foam applicator and evenly distribute the clear top with the polyester brush to lock the color onto the lips.

Iconic Red is a classic tomato red, said to be universally flattering.  The color is unbelievably rich and saturated.  Formula wise there is a slight stick as the product adheres to your lips, but it’s not entirely uncomfortable and I wouldn’t mind wearing just the color alone as a matte red lip.  Though, it is stunning with the clear top coat.  The top coat is perfect for giving off that glossy feel or reviving the color as it dulls (though will not disappear).

This does NOT COME OFF.  It’s the closest way to get a lip color tattooed on without actually going and getting a tattoo.  When I went to clean my arm off I tried THREE products to get it off and there is still PRODUCT left (not just staining).  My arm, it has been through war.  Break out the turpentine. Freaking amazing.

For removal, I literally SOAKED one of those facial cotton rounds in Lancome Bi-Facil and held it in my mouth then scrubbed the living bejeezus out of my lips.  My lips, they is swolled.  But, you can rest assured, this lip product ain’t goin’ ANYwhere.

No wonder they’re Madge tour-worthy.

    • Very little. The least amount of any product similar. I wouldn’t have minded just wearing the lip color alone.

  1. Is it perverse that I actually want this even more because of the challenge of getting it off? Maybe I’ve just had too much coffee.

Did toothpaste help get it off at all?

Now I’m off to look at the other shades available. Thanks for the great review!

    • hmmm I didn’t try to brush my teeth with it on.. but I imagine doing that would have no bearing on the actual color… though the gloss part would be gone. Not perverse! I love a lippie I don’t have to stress over!

  2. I like the matte look. Iconic Red with the clear top coat looks more stunning. The long staying capacity comes as a surprise pack.
