Top Tech Gifts for Kids on Amazon

Kids are almost as hard to shop for as men (sorry, guys). Especially when they hit that in-between stage of young enough to want all the toys and old enough to only want the most expensive of electronics. My son is currently at that stage. He wants expensive electronics (sorry, bud) and, unfortunately, very expensive toys. He understands that the more money that is spent on one thing the less he has to open so that’s a plus. On my end as the parent my biggest thing is that I want to make sure that whatever I buy is something that will help him learn while he plays. If I’m spending that cash might as well kill two birds with one stone… gift and knowledge lol.

TOP TECH GIFTS for Kids on Amazon - present ideas for boys & girls for Christmas, Holiday season, birthday #gifts #christmas #kids #amazon

Below are some of the items my son and daughter thought were awesome (listed alphabetically) that they would love to have. What better people to give gift ideas for kids than actual kids?! Mine are currently 8 & 11 going on teenagers. Do with that what you will lol. I also threw in a couple for kids younger than 8 that I know mine would have loved.

DropMix Music Gaming System ($59.99). From the creators of Rock Band this is a fast-paced music mixing game so that you can DJ at-home to create your own song mixes. The recommended age on this is 16+ but TBH if you can help your kid out a bit they’ll be fine. I know for a fact my 16 year old nephew wouldn’t use this, but my 8 & 11 year olds totally would (and in the review they do say the songs are all the clean versions).

KD Interactive Aura Drone with Glove Controller ($79.99). Drones are cool. Drones controlled by gloves are cooler. Just like a superhero you can control this drone using hand motions and auto-features. The safety frame surrounding the drone protects it from bumps and crash landings (that you know always happen when humans are involved).

Kurio Watch 2.0+ The Ultimate Smartwatch for Kids ($49.99). An actual bluetooth smart watch with apps and games for kids! There’s a camera, messaging, activity tracker, music - all connected to a parents smartphone so that calls can be made WITHOUT another phone contract! Scratch-resistant and splash proof protection are the cherry on top of this delicious gift. The price is more than right, too!

LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox Building and Coding Kit ($159.95). You build one of FIVE multi-functional robots and control them with easy-to-use coding blocks on your tablet. It’s also compatible with all LEGO construction sets!

littleBits Rule Your Room Kit ($79.99). Use this to create interactive inventions that you can customize to anything you own! Step-by-step instructions are included and you can use the toolbox over and over again!

Meccano-Erector M.A.X Robotic Interactive Toy with AI ($149.99). My son got a similar version a few years ago and still uses it to this day. They’re capable of a lot more now and I can tell you with absolute certainty that it’ll be a holiday hit.

Nintendo Switch ($299.99). Of course this is in here. Last year our family gift was a PS4, and it’s well-loved. But my kid wants the Nintendo Switch. Why must kids need every system?! This one is pretty cool, though. I know I’m personally a fan of Nintendo from way back. Maybe mom needs this….

Piper Computer Kit ($299.00). You get the tools, materials and blueprint necessary to build your own computer! It’s pricey but it’s the coolest thing ever and so worth it. Scroll below for a full review!

Star Wars Droid Adventure Kit ($99.00). My kids aren’t even into Star Wars and they think this is amazing. You create and control your own droid and teach it new skills using the app. TBH I want one.

VR Real Feel Virtual Reality Car Racing Gaming System ($28.95). Who isn’t into VR? This system comes with a bluetooth steering wheel and headset goggles that are compatible with your iOS iPhone or Android. 3D HD graphics with an adjustable phone cradle.

VTech Kidizoom Action Cam ($39.99). Kids are hilarious and they love to be able to record every moment of that. This is perfect for little hands to take selfies, photos and record video. You can mount this to your bike, skateboard… the sky is pretty much the limit since it’s in an all-weather, water-resistant case.

Wonder Workshop Dash Robot ($149.94). For the kid that likes a robot but maybe isn’t old enough to be building. their own just yet. It’s brought to life using free apps and comes fully assembled (parents, rejoice!).

Now… more on that Piper Computer Kit.

Piper Computer Kit Review - your child can BUILD THEIR OWN COMPUTER and play MINECRAFT on it! It’s the coolest thing EVER! Check out my sons review and demo! #kids #tech #gifts

Recently we got the chance to try out the Piper Computer Kit (shown above) which was really the inspiration for this entire post. My son loves to build and create things. He’s recently gotten into electronics and how they work so when the email came through about this product he was majorly excited (that’s putting it mildly) especially because once you’re done building the computer you can play the game every kid is obsessed with - Minecraft.

You can literally build your own computer and play Minecraft on it.

When the Piper Computer Kit arrived everything was packed very neatly in the box complete with numbered baggies and an easy to follow blueprint. My son Owen got right to work on it and I’ve never seen such focus. He loves to build things, especially LEGO’s, but he always tends to watch TV or take breaks when he’s building a set. Not with the Piper Computer Kit. He was on it like it owed him money.

Personally things like this make my eyes cross. I’m literally no help whatsoever. I actually told him to please wait for his dad (who is an engineer) to come home before he even started. Obviously, I was ignored. Owen has only just turned 11 and (thankfully) needed very little help with this project. He hit a few small snags and needed some help with wiring at the end, but I’m actually glad for that because my husband was able to explain to him certain things and why they needed to be that way. He finished the entire thing within 4 hours and mostly on his own. I don’t know about you, but I’m impressed.

As a parent I loved how interactive he had to be with this. It was fun for him and also educational. Owen doesn’t even realize it, but he learned about building, engineering, critical thinking, programming and more… all things that our kids need to understand and learn about as they grow up in this world that turns more and more technology based every single day. The Piper Computer Kit is a pricey gift, but it’s worth it in every possible way.
