You guys… I’m so disappointed in my September Boxycharm. I feel terrible saying that, because the value is totally there and the products are nice (for the most part) but I was DYING for the Tarte Clay Play Vol. 1 Palette. I missed out on it before and regretted it, so this was a fleeting chance to get it in my life (and super cheaply, too!). Alas, not in the cards for me… but it’s the game you play with a subscription box.
Now that I’m done sharing in my sadness let’s get on with the unboxing! The theme for the September 2019 Boxycharm is All Access.

Boxycharm Monthly Beauty Subscription Box Unboxing | September 2019
WHAT IS BOXYCHARM
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription box filled with 5-6 luxury items, 4 of which will always be full-sized. The monthly cost of Boxycharm is $21 but if you subscribe for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months you’ll receive a slight discount on the monthly boxes (down to $19.25). Renewals are automatic but you can cancel at any time.
Each Boxycharm box has a minimum value of $100 and you’ll receive anything from makeup to skincare to beauty tools. With some products shades can vary though with other products all boxes will have them included.
To find out how to best use the products received in the monthly box you can check out tutorials and looks shared by the “Charmer” community on social media.
Members are treated to exclusive offers from the best brands in beauty. You’ll also be eligible to win free products through giveaways and receive reward points which are redeemable in the Boxycharm Charm Shop.

WHAT’S INSIDE
Violet Voss Essentials Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00). Revamped, essential eye shadow shades in matte and metallic finishes that are perfect for fashion-forward, neutral looks. This palette is “designed for everyday use in a stunning mix of warm and cool toned shades for countless color combinations”.
While this palette is beautiful it wasn’t my first or even second option (though the description on the card does hype me up a little more). TBH I’d have been happy with it if I wouldn’t have known what the other two products were (see below). Anyway, I’ll get use out of it (probably only the matte shades) and some day I’ll get that Tarte palette, right? =(
This is a variation item. Other subscribers will receive either the Tarte Clay Play Palette Vol. 1 or the Too Faced Natural Face Palette.

Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask ($52.00). This is said to be a “hydrating recovery sleeping mask that balances skin’s naturally occurring flora and locks in moisture overnight to reduce redness and soothe the signs of irritation”.
Happy to report that this product does not contain alcohol so I’m excited to actually use a skincare item that I get in one of these Boxycharms! I generally love every Dr. Brandt product that I try so I’m happy to see the brand in this month’s box.
note: this product is in different packaging than what is shown on websites like Sephora and ULTA Beauty. However, the amount of product you’re getting appears to be the same.
From what I can tell it looks like everyone will be receiving this item.

MODA 5 pc. Brush Kit ($27.95). A 5 piece deluxe eye kit that includes Shade | BMX-466, Crease | BMX-430, Detail | BMX-420, Smudge | BMX-402 and Line | BMX-498.
Super crazy excited for this brush kit, as I usually always am when Boxycharm includes brushes with their boxes. MODA has excellent quality, PRO level brushes at an affordable price point. This set is all about the eyes and I can never have enough awesome eye brushes!
From what I can tell it looks like everyone will be receiving this item.

MAC Frost Lipstick in CB 96 ($18.50). An “iconic product that made MAC famous. This formula features smooth, medium buildable coverage, high pearl and a semi-lustrous finish”.
I’m an old school MAC lover from the days when LiveJournal was the ONLY place anyone cared to chat & share beauty online (well, in addition to Specktra). This was like 12 years ago maybe? That’s the last time I can remember frost lipstick being cool and, yes, back then MAC CB 96 was coveted. But now, it’s 2019 and frost lipstick is not okay (sorry, not sorry). I appreciate the memories, but this one is going right to the giveaway bin.
This is a variation item. Other subscribers will receive the Hank & Henry Beauty Liquid Liner in Blickity Black.

Laura Gellar Baked Gellato Swirl Illuminator ($26.00). I received the shade Ballerina. This highlighter has an “innovative, hybrid texture” that applies like a sheer powder but feels like a cream giving off that “lit-from-within glow”.
This is a well-loved product in the Laura Gellar line so it’s exciting to see something so iconic included in a subscription box. I’m not often one to wear highlighters but I do love the formula on this one and plan on keeping it close-by to use when I get the urge to glow a little more.
This is a variation item. Other subscribers will receive the Billion Dollar Brows The Microblade Effect Brow Pen.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Was the box worth the money? For me, it still was. While I spent most of this post whining about not getting the Tarte Palette I still got a good eye shadow palette that I might end up using more than I think. I know darn well I’ll use the crap out of the MODA brushes and that value right there is a little more than the cost of the box. Looking back the only item I’ll actually be getting rid of is the MAC lipstick, which was a bigger disappointment to get than the palette.
You can sign up for Boxycharm here. HURRY, space is limited month-to-month. (Please note, there is a chance you won’t get the same box as me each month, as most of the products are variation items & there is also a chance you’ll get the next month’s box instead).
To my knowledge all of the products listed above are FULL SIZE (except if noted otherwise).
For reference – my box is VERSION 15.
The retail value of the entire September 2019 Boxycharm? $153.45! This boxes’ retail value is higher than last month’s box, and obviously that retail value is well worth the $21 investment.

Wow thank you for the thorough and honest review. It was very helpful and informative. This is my first time reading your reviews and will continue to read more.
I think that Violet Voss palette is stunning (lucky you, even though you really wanted the Tarte). But there doesn’t exist an eye palette that you wouldn’t do a beautiful look with! I go back and forth on subscription boxes because of my skin sensitivities, but I’m inclined to like what I see in your Boxy Charms.
Thank you! Their skincare that they send is hit or miss for me because of skin sensitivity. It does seem like they’re doing more to curate the boxes towards the person it’s going to. Slowly but surely, anyway. In November the price is going up to $25 but the value will increase and I believe you can tailor it more. I have to double check the email. Everything looked super positive, though!
That eyeshadows are so beautiful
